Organic Heirloom Veggies From My Garden

Organic Blue Heirloom Beans
Organic Rainbow Heirloom Carrot From My Garden
They really are this color!

These gorgeous and delicious rare vegetable varieties are my answer to the industrial food system. I grew them myself, respectfully and organically. The flavor was similar to their prosaic supermarket counterparts, the common green beans and the common orange carrots. Yet they were very different; richer, exotic, more fragrant, sweeter, earthier, even floral. These homegrown rare variety vegetables nourished far more fully, and in many more ways than I have ever experienced before.

Welcome Summer

The solstices and equinoxes are much more meaningful to me than national and religious holidays. Living in Coastal Northern California, the seasons are very very subtle. People who have moved here often say, "I miss the real seasons- spring, summer, fall and winter." Myself, I'm very sensitive to the duration and the quality of light throughout the year. The way my shadow looks at noon on any given day, the goldeness or blueness of the light, what the plants are doing and which foods are growing... these are the subtleties that fill me the feeling of the season... and there seems to be many more seasons here than just the one or two. Right now my noon shadow is at it's shortest and the light is a cool blue for most of the day; The summer solstice is coming! That means I've gone 35 journeys around the sun on this beautiful and alive blue green sphere in the heavens.

Talus Cave~ The Pinnacles, California

"If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up till he sees all things through narrow chinks of his cavern"  ~William Blake

The Sands Portfolio

The Sands portfolio can now be viewed on my website, www.photographmaker.com

The Sands is a celebration of the Universality common between what is seen and the small and invisible.  These little prints express different truths, suggesting what else a subject may be just beyond the veil of mundane everyday observation.

Crossing A TL Common

Beauty, how I live for beauty.
It's not lost here-
On these sordid Tenderloin streets.
There are clear moments of beauty.
Amid the vague murmurs...
Tremoring between benevolence and desperation.

These short winter days-
Time lingers long after the end of the light.
The long cold dark of winter.

Short hours of light!
Long shadows…
Even at the sun’s zenith.
Golden.  Glancing.
Only the beauty saves me,
Of this winter light.
